Monochromatic Friday Faves

As I’ve decided to go back to the drawing board so to speak and have a bit of a break from sewing this week (probably the safer option with the hip pain and drowsiness from painkillers) I’ve taken inspiration from my black and white sketches for this week’s monochrome theme from some of my etsy team’s sellers this week:

Axevictimus – Wood pendant with aluminium (Craft Britannia shop of the week, great to feature a man this week)

Me and Moms crafts - White crochet infant girl socks (Craftyetsians shop of the week, soooo cute)

Whimsy Woo Designs - iPad Cover (Craftyfolk shop, love this fabric)

Off to see if I can stay awake long enough to do some sketching now, have a fab weekend

Sketchbook Project – ready, set GO

I was very excited to receive my sketchbook project from Art House Co-op for 2013 last week and couldn’t wait to start it. Although I had told myself I wouldn’t start it until I’d finished my prismacolor mystery project, which I am still finishing, I just couldn’t resist as I already have many ideas swimming round in my head. So, I allowed myself to start working on the cover and although it is work in progress I feel better that I have started to put pen (and thread) to paper.

Watch this space…

Noteswap

After doing the 4×6 exchange 2 I was looking for the next Art House Co-op when the note swap came up. It was inspired by a gigs and lyrics book I had recently done for my friend’s birthday and was a combination of my fave lyrics and I couldn’t live without music! It was a bit of a rush as it needed to be posted on the day we returned from Montreal and I was a bit jet-lagged but I can’t wait to see what I get in return…

Tuesday Talent – Moaning Minnie

I’m still amazed by the amount of talented people that I find in my everyday creative life, from friends and family to complete strangers, many of whom are now friends. Hence, me deciding that Tuesdays will be the days to shout about them! I’m going to start of with Julie from Moaning Minnie, for many reasons but here are my top 3:

  • She’s originally from my hometown in Yorkshire
  • She makes the most amazing hats in my size (I normally have to buy children’s sizes)
  • I got 3 of her hats (above) for my birthday from my friend and hubby, and I love them all – they’re so unique!

Please take a look at her etsy shop and you won’t be disappointed.

Arthouse 4 x 6 exchange 2

I love a challenge, especially if it’s creative so I couldn’t wait to sign up to the 4×6 exchange 2 by Art house Co-op. After finding out about the sketchbookproject 2 years ago Art house have managed to motivate me to push myself further, and their latest series of project is no exception. I have good days and bad days at the moment, still recovering from major hip surgery and phasing my return to work from this week so it’s important that I find things to keep my creativity going. So, when I hobbled home after my first day back at work after 6 months off I was cheered up by the post waiting for me, and this fab combo #1 artwork from Edgar Exclamation, who also sells on etsy.

Showcase Sunday – red, white, blue

From now on Sunday is going to be the day I showcase my latest makes, doodles and creations. So to start off I’ve chosen a red, white and blue theme, hmmm… wonder why that could be! I take inspiration from lots of different places but it’s hard not to be inspired by national events such as the Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee. It was my first week back at work last week after 6 months off recovering from major hip surgery and just walking past shops on my commute made it impossible to miss the sea of red, white and blue everywhere. So, if you want to join in the festivities have a look at my etsy shop for bunting, and baby bits to get all ages involved, or leave a comment about your recent red, white and blue makes or finds!

Spring swap

I love a good swap, so when the opportunity came up on the craftyfolk team on etsy how could I say no? I was lucky enough to be teamed with Apryl from Blue Daisy Glass and in return for my selection of cards I received the gorgeous glass items above fresh from the kiln!

Friday Faves

Friday’s are my dedicated days to finding and showcasing some of my fave handmade items and sellers, and today I’ve chosen Luulla to find my top 3. My bones are aching like mad today, and as my consultant told me I had the bones of an 80 year old I thought I’d choose vintage items:

English shop – Vintage British clock (this gorgeous clock reminds me of my grandad and I can picture it on his sideboard when I was little)

Antica treasures – La Luna Vintage scarf (this is just so pretty)

Paprika Rose – Little Prudy’s story book (nothing like a good book, especially if it’s vintage)

Have a great weekend

Birthday bunting

You may have seen my last minute attempts at bunting for my joint 60th party with my friend Vicky, and I’ve had a few requests to see it in-situ, so here it is. I am pleased to say it even survived the Ceilidh dancing… just need to decide what to do with 21m of bunting now – anyone interested?

Also, I’d just like to say thank you to Heart my Closet and Made by Mada for my fab handmade dress and earrings (had to get a new handmade birthday outfit of course!)

Please pick me Theo…

I might not have won SBS yet
But this is as close as I can get,
After this I will begin to fret!

I started off with illustrations
And despite all of my frustrations
I continue onto new creations

Bibs, hats and booties you will find
I always make with love and kind…
So please keep me in mind!

I’m putting all my effort in and trying hard,
I can do no more without sending you a card!
